Take one glance and you'll see how this sculpted, neo-classical tower, designed by renowned architects, Solomon, Cordwell, Buenz, re-establishes the architectural presence of premier apartment buildings of the past. In fact, The Chicagoan has earned numerous awards for its architecture and use of floor space.
The profile of The Chicagoan is unique, with angular bays that
offer six corner apartments on nearly every floor. Equally unusual
is the ability to offer so many one, two and three bedroom apartments
which differ in size and shape. Larger and more interesting than
most residential apartments, select apartments even feature private
balconies and terraces.
The Design Objective for The Chicagoan was to create a distinctive
tower with spectacular living spaces and a strong visual relationship
to its neighbor, the historic Water Tower on North Michigan Avenue.
The floor plate is designed to take full advantage
of the site's panoramic views. It provides six corner apartments
rather than the usual four of a rectangular plan. Many of the
building's apartments contain bay-shaped living rooms with 180-degree
views of Lake Michigan and Chicago's skyline. The tower's five-story base contains parking and street-level
retail shops.
Highly articulated exterior detailing and varied window sizes
are indicative of the building's residential function. The design
continues the grand architectural heritage of Chicago's Gold
Coast, yet is distinctly impressive.
The Chicagoan's award-winning architecture features both style and substance in each of its many large, unique apartments - like 180-degree views of Chicago's skyline and Lake Michigan.
